netOsobe koje provode mnogo vremena u surfanju internetom češće nego drugi ljudi pokazuju znakove depresije, upozorili su britanski stručnjaci. Znanstvenici napominju da ipak još nije jasno da li internet izaziva depresiju ili su depresivni ljudi skloniji surfanju. "Ovo istraživanje podupire špekulacije u javnosti da pretjerani angažman na web sajtovima koji služe kao zamjena za normalne društvene funkcije, može biti u vezi s psihološkim poremećajima kao što su depresija i ovisnost", objasnila je voditeljica istraživanja dr. Morison.

Znanstvenici su analizirali korištenje Interneta i razinu depresije kod 1.319 Britanaca starosti od 16 do 51 godine. Jedan od zaključaka ovog istraživanja je da su 1,2% anketiranih ovisnici o internetu.
To ne izgleda puno, ali je dvostruko veći postotak u odnosu na britanske ovisnike o kockanju.
Ovisnici o internetu veliki dio vremena provode na erotskim portalima, igrajući igrice i "družeći se". Za njih je karakteristično da su češće žrtve umjerene i teške depresije nego rjeđi korisnici interneta.
