mamografijaU British Medical Journalu objavljeni su razultati 25-godišnjeg kanadskog istraživanja na 90.000 žena u dobi od 40 do 59 godine. Cilj istraživanja bio je ustanoviti povezanost redovitih mamografskih pregleda i učestalosti karcinoma dojke. Sudionice su podijeljene u skupinu koja je obavljala godišnje mamografije i kontrolnu skupinu koja je primjenjivala samopregled dojki.

 

Tijekom razdoblja od 25 godina 3.250 žena u mamografskoj skupini (n = 44 925 sudionika) i 3.133 u kontrolnoj skupini (n = 44 910) imalo je dijagnozu raka dojke, a 500 žena u mamografskoj skupini i 505 u kontrolnoj skupini umrlo je od raka dojke. Specifična smrtnost od raka dojke bila je slična u obje skupini (omjer rizika 0,99 i 95 % interval pouzdanosti 0,88-1,12 ). Otkrića kod žena u dobi od 40-49 i 50-59 godina bili su gotovo identični.

Zaključak

Dr. Richard Wender, napominje da su rezultati kliničkih ispitivanja mamografije pokazali da se njome za 15% smanjuje smrtnost od raka dojke ženama u 40-im godinama i za najmanje 20% onima starijima. Međutim, ukupno 22% (106/484) slučajeva od mamografski otkrivenih invazivnih karcinoma dojki bili su nepotrebno liječnički tretirani. U zaključku se ističe važnost razlikovanja benignih od malignih tvorbi na dojkama te potrebe kontrolnog praćenja dobroćudnih promjena, a medicinski liječenih zloćudnih.
