Stručni časopis Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences piše kako je ovaj pristup bio znatno manje učinkovit u otkrivanju izgleda za depresiju kod tinejdžerica, vjerojatno zbog prirodnih razlika u prisutnosti kortizola. Depresija je u prosjeku dvostruko češća kod žena nego kod muškaraca. Tinejdžerska i rana odrasla dob su vrlo važne za mentalno zdravlje jer se 75% poremećaja razvije prije 24. godine. Rana identifikacija osoba kojima prijeti veći rizik za kliničku depresiju će omogućiti primjenu prevencijskih postupaka i pravovremenih intervencija, dodaju istraživači. |
Britanski znanstvenici s University of Cambridge razvili su novi test namijenjen procjeni rizika za kliničku depresiju kod dječaka u tinejdžerskoj dobi. Test je utemeljen na praćenju razine hormona kortizola i analizi subjektivnih odgovora o raspoloženju ispitanika, a u trogodišnjem istraživanju je sudjelovalo 1858 tinejdžera.
