Hematologinja Dana Angelini sa Clinice Cleveland objašnjava kako će većina modrica zacijeliti sama od sebe za tjedan ili dva. Ipak, ako često ne možemo identificirati uzrok modrica ili se ona čini neobično velikom u odnosu na ozljedu, te duže vrijeme ne prolazi, bilo bi dobro posjetiti svog liječnika. "Uobičajeno je povremeno udariti se u nešto, pa se kasnije zaboraviti odakle nam određena modrica na rukama ili nogama. Međutim, neobjašnjive modrice na torzu, leđima ili licu mogu biti znak za uzbunu'', upozorava Angelini. Kako dodaje, neobjašnjive modrice na tijelu mogu ukazivati na sljedeće poremećaje:
