japan-ckIstočnu obalu Japana 11. ožujka 2011. godine pogodio je snažan potres magnitude 8,9 po Richteru koji je prouzročio razorni plimni val (tsunami). Uslijedio je i velik broj manjih potresa. Trenutno je nemoguće procijeniti razmjere ove katastrofe i broj žrtava. Deseci tisuća ljudi smatraju se nestalima. Plimni val i potresi prouzročili su veliku materijalnu štetu.

 

 

Japanski Crveni križ na pogođeno područje poslao je timove za odgovor na katastrofe čiji je zadatak pružiti neophodnu pomoć pogođenom stanovništvu i napraviti procjenu potreba. Japanski Crveni križ, kao jedno od najjačih nacionalnih društava Crvenog križa u svijetu posebno dobro pripremljeno za djelovanje u katastrofama, zasad razmatra traženje međunarodne pomoći. Međunarodni odbor Crvenog križa otvorio je posebne web stranice (www.familylinks.icrc.org) putem kojih svi oni koji su izgubili kontakt s članovima svojih obitelji mogu ostaviti poruku ili potražiti informacije.
